MTPL is a contract entered into between the vehicle owner, referred to as the insured, and the insurance company. In exchange for the insurance premium, the insurer undertakes to pay for damages caused to a third party should the insured risk occur.

To issue mandatory domestic auto liability insurance policies, the scope of coverage is determined, including: the type and engine displacement of the vehicle, the owner’s residence permit, the driver’s years of experience, and the number of people authorized to drive the vehicle.

MTPL is the mandatory auto liability insurance through which individuals who have suffered as a result of a car accident are compensated, and the following are covered:

• damage to the vehicle

• bodily injury

• deaths

• damage to property

This insurance is mandatory for all motor vehicles registered or subject to registration in the Republic of Moldova for a period of one year.
